Almost everyone has seen a bee at least once in their life; in fact, many people are afraid of them. Consider these reasons to be an advocate for bees.

They’ve Been Around Forever

Bees are arguably one of the oldest insects in the world, and they continue to play an important role in our lives today. Believe it or not, there are records of bees and beekeeping dating back millions of years. Because they’ve been around for so long, it’s nearly impossible to understand what life on earth would look like without them. While you may not think they’re that big of a deal, honeybees quite literally keep the world moving.

Bees Are the Primary Pollinators

Pollination is an essential process for plants, trees, and crops to grow, and honeybees are the primary pollinators throughout the world. As they forage for nectar, they also collect pollen and transfer it to other plants. Remarkably, honeybees are responsible for pollinating almost all the crops Americans consume and use on a daily basis.

In other words, we wouldn’t have consistent growth of cotton, apples, almonds, melons, pumpkins, berries, broccoli, and many others. Because many animals also rely on bee-pollinated plants for food, various animal groups would also go extinct.

Honey Is Impossible To Replicate

Almost everyone is familiar with the sweet, delicious golden substance known as honey, but you may take it for granted. Honeybees produce honey using the nectar they forage from plants and flowers, and it’s one of the only complete foods in the world—meaning it contains all the necessary nutrients for a human to survive.

Although eating a diet of nothing but honey is rather insane, you should know that this delectable material is impossible to replicate without honeybees. The bees use a unique process within their bodies and the hive to produce honey from nectar.

Their Role Is Vital for the Economy

Everything in our world goes in a circle, and bees are an essential step in the process. Because they’re responsible for pollinating most crops, their existence greatly impacts the overall revenue of the food crop industry. Additionally, cotton is essential for sustaining the fashion and textile industry, which would diminish greatly without honeybees. Imagining what would happen if the bees went extinct is difficult, but it’s necessary to grasp the possibility.

Understanding these crucial reasons to be an advocate for bees is essential for everyone. Unless we all do our part to support and save the bee population, their numbers may continue to decline. Spread the word and advocate for bees in your community.
