Kitchen Size Doesn't Matter… until it does.

Y'all… I've lived in so many different houses of all sizes. And I have to tell you that your kitchen size doesn't matter if you don't use it. And even if you have a small kitchen, like I did for many many years, there are some creative ways of using your kitchen to make the most of that space.

Yes, I LOVE having a large open kitchen. But I am right at home in any size kitchen, even a camper kitchen! But my most crucial tip is that you need to know your space limits and reduce clutter. Because if you have limited space, don't fill that space with things that don't serve a purpose. Everything in a small kitchen must have a reason for being there, so this means getting rid of decorations and junk if you lack a space to put everything away properly and clean thoroughly.

Choose the Right Shelving

The style of shelving and storage you choose can make a world of difference in a small kitchen. Open-style shelving, like floating shelves, is a great choice for smaller kitchens because they keep your wall space open and exposed, making the room feel larger. Don’t be afraid to take the doors off your upper cabinets and embrace an open shelving plan. Plus, open shelves are trending, especially in popular cottagecore-style kitchen designs.

Utilize Countertop Overhang

If your kitchen has a built-in island with a countertop overhang, take advantage of this space saver. Turn your countertop overhang into a bar where you can sit and eat. If your overhang is deep enough, you can even store barstools underneath and save yourself some room for seating options. When designing your kitchen, make sure you know about and consider countertop overhang in your dimensions and measurements. Also, there are more applications for overhang than bar seating.

Get Creative With Furniture

When buying furniture for your kitchen, keep an eye out for space-saving options. Some tables and chairs come with foldable options. This lets you collapse these pieces after using them, opening space in your kitchen for more movement. Additionally, you can find tables with removable leaves and folding pieces. These options are great for homeowners who love to host but don’t always need additional seating that takes up room in their kitchen or dining room.

Don’t feel discouraged if you feel like your kitchen is too small to work with. The takeaway here is that you have options to help maximize your kitchen space. Use these tips for how to make the most of your space in a small kitchen and start enjoying your space. Soon, you’ll be cooking from home more than ever.
