How to host a vegetarian for Thanksgiving
It always surprises me how stressed my friends and family have felt when hosting a vegetarian guest for dinner. I've gotten so many calls about needing ideas on what to feed this “special” guest. But it's not that hard, just don't feed them meat!
But really, here are a few things to try:
- Ask about likes and dislikes. I personally hate portabella mushrooms. But I'm often served a giant mushroom cap as my dinner because it looked like something vegetarians might eat.
- Ask if they eat honey, butter, or gelatin. You might be surprised at the answer!
- Pizza is usually a good alternative!
- Ask your guest for suggestions or to bring something as a main dish to share.
- Be conscious about your ingredients. Once, I accidentally served a friend a favorite dish with cream of chicken soup in the broth. I wasn't thinking, and I've lived in guilt for almost 20 years! ( yeah, I should get over it. But…you know. )
So here are a few easy main dish ideas that we thought you would like. Let us know which ones you try!
