There’s nothing quite like having company stay over. You exchange stories and create memories. But the course of hospitality never did run smooth. Make It Easy To Clean

What’s the first thing we do when we hear company’s coming over? We shout for the kids to pick up their rooms and pull out the vacuum and duster. And given how much time and effort it takes to clean a bathroom, creating the perfect guest bathroom means creating one you can clean with ease. A few ideas to keep in mind include:

  • Choosing a minimalist bathroom design
  • Putting floor mats in front of the sink and shower
  • Cleaning the mirror with car wax—this keeps the mirror from fogging
  • Choosing trashcans with lids
  • Having multiple machine-washable shower liners you can switch out

Choosing the right paint will also determine how easy your bathroom is to clean. For example, if you’re choosing between eggshell paint and matte, go with eggshell. The paint is more durable, making it easier to take a scrub brush to it.

Organize Your Bathroom

Having “a place for everything and everything in its place” does more than keep your bathroom tidy. An organized bathroom will help eliminate confusion for guests who are unfamiliar with your home. Label places where you put extra towels, washcloths, and soaps, and make it obvious where they can hang old towels or leave dirty laundry.

Choose a Color Scheme

Once you have the practical parts of bathroom design down, you can focus on the fun part: decoration! Since there is only so far you can go with decorating a bathroom, the easiest way to go about it is to choose a color scheme and get matching wall and cabinet paint, shower curtains, and other accessories like floor mats and soap dispensers. Consider the following:

  • Use the 60-30-10 rule. Have one color take up 60 percent of the room, have a neutral take up 30 percent of the room, and have ten percent as an accent color.
  • Use the 80-20 rule. Have one color take up 80 percent of the room. A neutral can take up 20 percent.
  • Combine two neutral colors.

If all this color theory makes your brain hurt, you can always match the color scheme to the rest of the house. Or you can pick colors based on a décor theme. For example, you can use teal, tan, and white for a beach theme.

Pinterest Makes It Easy

When we were building our house, I spent hours looking through magazines, watching my favorite HGTV shows, and keeping notes.  But the best asset was Pinterest.  I could keep a collection of my favorite looks for each room and easily find them again from my phone when I was at the design centers.

We love Pinterest!  And we would love if you would follow us there for our latest favorites, recipes, and design ideas!
