The Best Homemade Caramel Sauce

Like what you see?  Share it with your friends!

If you are looking for an easy Caramel sauce recipe, look no further.  I love this caramel sauce because it takes just a few minutes, a few ingredients AND I can turn them into easy & affordable gifts. Who doesn’t love that??

What’s even better, is you can customize this recipe to make it thinner or thicker just by swapping out Heavy cream for a thicker sauce, or Half & Half for a thinner sauce.

When you are done, you toss it into the refrigerator for up to three weeks!

Oh, and I’ve sent this sauce to my family as gifts and it holds up so well. They were so excited to get a taste of home and I loved being able to give them something homemade with love.

So, let’s get to that recipe!

Best Caramel Sauce Recipe

I know you are excited to get to the Caramel Sauce Recipe, but I wanted to show you which pan we use because using the right pan in this recipe is important.

You want a heavy bottom pan that’s a little bigger than you thought you would need.  Because you want the sugar to heat evenly, and you are going to be whisking constantly, you want it to be deep and heavy.

Holiday Spice Caramel Sauce Recipe

For an easy twist, we have also included how to turn your basic recipe into our Holiday Spice Caramel Sauce.  Our family LOVES this variation around the holidays because it just tastes like December! LOL, that’s the only description our family can ever come up with when we try to describe the rich caramel with with our holiday spice blend.

 ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
 1 pinch Salt
For Boozy Coffee Caramel
1 Cask & Kettle Hot Blonde Cocktail Pod – Brewed OR

 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon

This is one of my favorite recipes to make big batches of and give to friends and family. Everyone loves it. So if you want to make big batches, double or triple the ingredients!

In a large heavy saucepan, over medium heat, add in your butter, cream, and sugar let it start to bubble up and turn a light golden color. This brings out the buttery taste. Stirring constantly, carefully add in your vanilla and salt and mix it up fully and allow that to start to melt together.

2

Keep stirring for 15 minutes, don't let it clump up. Your mixture will turn a beautiful caramel brown as it starts to thicken. Keep the heat low, resist turning it up to rush the time. If the heat is too high, the sugar will burn.

You want your mixture to get to a nice medium thickness. It will get thicker once it cools.

Note: If you want it thinner, use Half & Half instead of Heavy Cream.

Carefully pour your caramel sauce into small sterilized pint jars and allow to cool before putting in the refrigerator for up to three weeks. Warm before serving!

Our friends at Cask & Kettle sent us some of their boozy hot cocktail pods to try in our recipes and we discovered that their Hot Blonde Coffee made a great addition to our caramel sauce!

Simply brew one pod and once your caramel starts to thicken, add in your coffee cocktail and stir for 5 more minutes until it thickens. It's so delicious!
