Peppermint Matcha Iced Latte

I love Green Tea lattes. In fact, a blended peppermint matcha latte is my go-to summer drink.  There is something about the cool mint and the crisp green tea that makes everything a little more chill.

Hey everyone, we have another fun recipe for you and it is inspired from my love of Starbucks. 

My friends and family know how much I love Starbucks and I’ve even had someone on Instagram accuse me of being “bought by Starbuck” because I love them so much. Nope, I’m just a customer.

But since it’s been a little hard to be out and about, I’ve had to come up with my own recipes for my favorite drinks. 

Feel free to add more flavor or less according to you own tastes here. 

What is Matcha?

Matcha usually comes in powdered forms, and it is light and smooth.  It is grown in Japan, and the leaves are ground into a fine powder.  It can be used in recipes from ice cream to pancakes!

In Japan, Matcha is also used as a ceremonial tea.  Also known as Maccha, this tea has a distinct taste that comes from the leaves that are grown in the shade to promote chlorophyll production. Unlike other teas, you consume the whole leaf instead of steeping it in hot water.  This gives you the added benefits of the tea and intense flavor.  But if you are watching your caffeine, beware that because you are getting the whole leaf you are also getting a higher dose of caffeine per cup.

Just like Starbucks?

While our recipe is very good, it’s hard to get it to taste exactly like the Starbucks drink because they use a powder that is mixed with other ingredients and sugar. 

I still love the original when I can get it.  But this is a great alternative with a dose of healthy on the side.

We found a great organic matcha that has been ground and pre-measured into perfect 2 gram packets. The Art of Tea has a great collection of wonderful quality teas online. 

Fun Topping Ideas:

Tips:

Mix the milk and Matcha powder together first to remove any lumps. 

If you can, spend the extra few $$ to get a good organic matcha powder. This ensures you have the best taste without the pesticides.  If it looks brown, it’s gone bad.

Iced Blended Green Tea Latte

Slightly sweet with earthy healthy notes, this matcha tea smoothie is full of healthy antioxidants.


 1 tsp matcha powder
 2 tbsp sugar
 1 cup milk / soy
 1 tbsp vanilla syrup
 1 cup ice cubes
 2 tbsp peppermint syrup


Directions:

Blend everything together in a blender.

Tips: I LOVE adding 1/2 oz peppermint syrup and a handful of chocolate chips to this for a smooth chocolate peppermint flavor.

MMMM….. I am ready for one right now!

Ingredients

 1 tsp matcha powder
 2 tbsp sugar
 1 cup milk / soy
 1 tbsp vanilla syrup
 1 cup ice cubes
 2 tbsp peppermint syrup
