Keep it simple and clean.

As crazy as it sounds, you don’t need to do much cleaning when you keep rooms simple. Don’t over decorate. When you have a minimalist style, you can quickly dust and see where the clutter has gathered in a quick glance.

It’s surprising how much faster my cleaning routine has gotten once I gave up the guilt about keeping everything and agreed to keep décor light.

This also means keeping a closet and drawer available for overnight guests to use.

Welcome guests with a cozy space.

A cozy space is comfortable, inviting, and gentle. You don't have to have a formal living room to entertain guests or a luxury guest room for them to sleep. You can create a cozy space for your guests by providing soft pillows, warm blankets, and a quiet space away to relax

We love having soft, inviting blankets displayed on our couches and chairs, just in case a guest gets a chill or just likes to wrap up in a blanket to relax. In the middle of the summer, I change the blankets to lighter versions. And they are always being used!

5 right now steps to a guest ready home

Allow overnight guests to make themselves at home.

In our house, we have different schedules, we are sometimes up early, and other times we muddle around getting ourselves together. So when we have overnight guests, we like to set out everything they will need to make themselves a light breakfast or warm up with tea or coffee before we can get to them.

Don't forget to ask your guests about dietary restrictions.

I have a tea and coffee station always set up in my kitchen. Guests can find a little snack and everything they need to get their mornings started.  We also tell our guests where to find the cool items in the fridge.

What's the Wifi?

It seems these days, everyone needs the WiFi and we like to make that easy for our guests by writing out our guest WiFi password, as well as details about how to use our TV (We cut the cable years ago. But we still use TV apps on our TV.) Don't forget to leave chargers and power outlets available for your guests to use.

You can also find cute art prints, like this one, that display your login with style.

Don't forget to let your guests know where they can find other items like feminine products, towels, and toilet paper.

Yes! This is my actual kitchen.

Keep the kitchen and bathrooms clean.

Sometimes guests can surprise you. This is why the most important tip is to keep your kitchen and bathroom the cleanest rooms in the house.

You don't want to be surprised and look around to see your kitchen is a disaster and the bathroom unspeakable. Make keeping these area clean a daily task and you won't regret it.

We even have some great tips for how to keep that kitchen guest ready

Don't sweat it.

Maybe you don't have enough time to make it picture perfect. Your guests are there to see you!

After many years of hosting parties and over-night guests, I've realized that stressing out about being perfect really makes me a cranky host. If you can do some simple things now to help your guests feel more comfortable, then do it. Let the rest come naturally.

Have fun with your guests and I promise you, it will be worth the effort.
