Monday Musing: Starting a new adventure
I'm so excited about starting this week off. Mondays have always been sort of hectic for me, but I love them. I know… most people hate Mondays. But I find that after having a few days thinking about what I need to get done, I'm always glad to actually just get started.
I wanted to tell you about a project I've been working on and how it began.
Last week, accidentally (more on that in a minute, I launched a new blog. It's called NerdMama.net and I just love it. I didn't think it was going to be something that I would feel this way about, but the more that it grows, the more I feel like it's been something I've needed to do for a while.
Recently, Michael and I were at a conference in Virginia for bloggers. While we were there we listened to the speakers talk about sticking to your niche. But my frustration with Dancing With Fireflies is that since it's beginning, it has had a few different niches. And I want to write about so many different things!
We had Dancing With Fireflies analyzed and what we discovered I wasn't expecting! I thought this blog had been narrowed down to a health and wellness blog. But when the pros took a look at it, they saw it differently. Dancing With Fireflies on it's own had become a lifestyle blog – Home and Family.
As much as I thought that we had been focusing on Lyme Disease and CBD, I had also started talking more about our new life here in our new house. And you guys, our readers, asked us to write more recipes and share more tips for decorating and family life.
Dancing With Fireflies began to dance to its own tune.

At this conference, surrounded by great bloggers and expert panels, I found myself aching to take on a new blog. I've been doing reviews here on DWF for a while. But I try to stay away from tech talk and blogging education because I don't think it fits what this blog is about.
But while we were at the conference, I realized that I had a lot of great information to share and I am excited to pass on that knowledge to people who want to learn.
I love tech, nerd stuff, and having the newest toys.
I am such a nerd.
When we got back, Michael and I started brainstorming what it would be like to write a tech blog and who our readers might be.
I'm still a Mom, so I wanted my focus to be on things that Moms like me would be able to read quickly, understand in plain language, and enjoy with some down to earth features.
We still wanted to be able to teach people something useful, things that anyone can do or learn.
And lastly, I wanted to share a bit of our nerdy side and talk about the great conferences we have attended, Comicons and Tech shows, as well as the fun toys and gadgets that we have in our home.
This is when NerdMama.net started to come to life.
This has been going on behind the scenes for a few weeks!
Nerd Mama launched itself!
I had wanted to take it slow and planned a December launch date. I had been working with Elementor on the new design for the blog and I wrote a great article for NerdMamam that I was playing around with the new settings for posting to social media when I realized I needed to set up a Nerd Mama facebook page to post to.
Side note: Elementor makes it so easy to create a beautiful blog or website with little coding knowledge. You just choose the design and fill in the details. Easy Peasy!
But what I didn't see was that one of the boxes I clicked was announcing the launch of the Facebook page to all of my friends and family. OOOPS!
So people started clicking on Like and trying to go to the new page. I started scrambling trying to get it ready. And it is still super early, but I did get it started. It was crazy, still is. But I got it done and realized that under pressure, I can do amazing things.
That's what's been going on in my life!
I hope you'll take a look at Nerd Mama and tell me what you think! And if you are considering starting your own blog, let me know and I would love to share my knowledge of working with WordPress and some other great blogging companies to help you get started!
