CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is just one of many different molecules known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.
CBD oil is created with the phytocannabinoids extracted from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Hemp and Marijuana both produce CBD oil. Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940. It is one of some 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants.
Phytocannabinoids are chemical compounds that interact with the body’s central regulatory system. This system, also known as the endocannabinoid system, manages homeostasis and affects your overall well-being.
There are over 100 unique phytocannabinoids found in hemp that your body already has natural receptors for.
Cannabinoids are active compounds produced by all cannabis plants. They account for most of the benefits of cannabis. Cannabinoids found in plants are technically called phytocannabinoids, while cannabinoids produced by the human body are called endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which promotes homeostasis
Endocannabinoids, those produced naturally by our bodies, are signaling molecules. They are technically called neurotransmitters. Hormones are a more familiar type of neurotransmitter. A vast array of neurotransmitters are produced by the nervous system in response to various states of health and also environmental factors. They interact with receptors found on the surface of cells throughout our bodies. Their job is to instruct a cell to adjust its activities. This can include changing how cells react to other neurotransmitters.
CBD can act as a neurotransmitter. Neurotransmitters help to regulate bodily systems at a cellular level. CBD has been shown to have effects on a wide array of systems in the human body, such as the immune system, the nervous system, the endocrine system, the cardiovascular system, the digestive system, the heart, liver, and kidneys, the epidermis and others. CBD is also known to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
The term broad spectrum refers to CBD oil products that contain a combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and other beneficial compounds found in PCR hemp. While many CBD oil products are made using CBD isolate, Swell CBD’s broad spectrum oils maintain the same concentrations of these beneficial compounds that are found in the original PCR hemp plant.
Due to FDA regulations, and the fact that we’re not doctors, we cannot make medical claims. The products suggested from this website are considered nutritional supplements or personal care products, according to FDA guidelines.
The medical world has been studying the science and health benefits of Cannabidiol for many years. Users have seen positive results in these areas. Though everyone reacts differently and results may vary.

Sadly, CBD is often extracted by running harsh chemicals like butane ( lighter fluid) over the raw plant material. Test are showing that some products have trace amounts of carcinogenic compounds like formaldehyde (embalming fluid ) that are toxic over time. This is why you must do your research to know exactly how the oil is extracted when you decide on a CBD brand.
CO2 extraction (Supercritical Fluid Extraction) is the main extraction process for essential oils. The newer method of CO2 extraction is cleaner and believed in be healthier than using butane or other harsh chemicals.
Closed- Loop or Cold ethanol extraction is another method that companies are turning to, claiming to be the best and highest quality extraction method using food grade ethanol to distill the oil and separate the hemp extract from the CBD oil. CBD oils are then refined to remove any trace of THC, wax, plant pigments, chlorophyll, etc.
CBD isolates are refined CBD oils that are processed even more until it is a fine odorless white powder containing 99% pure cannabidiol.
Isolates are then used in foods, supplements, and edibles. There isn’t really a taste at all to it. This is targeted for people wanting higher CBD doses and control of exactly how many milligrams of CBD per serving.
CBD is not FDA approved for treating any illness, including Lyme disease. The FDA considers CBD an “unapproved new drug” and does not suggest using as a substitute for prescribed medical treatment.
CBD Oil has calming excess signaling and activity in the brain’s endocannabinoid system
Anxiety and Depression can sometimes be treated with medications that block the reabsorption of serotonin in the brain. This makes more serotonin available to use when you are stressed.
Your brain cells transmit more serotonin to reduce anxiety and boost your mood.
CBD is thought to boost that serotonin through the brain and helps you to feel better fast.
Hemp and marijuana are both types of cannabis. Marijuana contains a cannabinoid known as THC, which causes a high and is known as a drug. Hemp contains negligible amounts of THC and is unlikely to cause a high. Our suggested products undergo a patented process which removes traces of THC from the final product.
Terpenes are a class of volatile hydrocarbon compounds produced in the flower clusters of the cannabis plant. Terpenes are what give cannabis its distinct aromas and have been utilized by humans for millennia in aromatherapy. Terpenes are recognized as safe for human consumption by the Food and Drug Association and are used in a wide variety of food and cosmetic products.
The ideal serving size of CBD for each person depends on a wide range of variables. It also depends on the product. Servings of 5 to 50 milligrams per day are commonly reported for health maintenance and minor issues.
CBD can be taken multiple times each day, or at particular times of day, depending on the reason it is being used.
The CBD products we suggest on Dancing With Fireflies have less than 0.3% THC in their products. Drug tests will not detect such low levels of THC.
No matter where you get it, all hemp-derived products contain trace amounts of THC. While it's unlikely that you'd fail a traditional drug test from using our products, the possibility cannot be ruled out.
If you’re subject to a zero-tolerance drug policy at work or elsewhere, please know that some of the more sensitive drug tests can come back positive for THC. If you’re unsure about where your company stands, better ask your HR department before you buy.
