Treating Gingivitis in dogs isn't hard. But you have to treat it right away. Here's our story to better dental care for our dogs.
I was so scared the night we brought Wynter home after having her teeth cleaned. She reacted very badly to the harsh anesthesia. She could barely walk, her eyes rolled in her head, and that night she started choking on her tongue. I thought for sure she was dying and I’ll never do that again. That’s when I started looking for an alternative, and I’ve found something so easy that I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before. CBD treats gum disease in dogs!
According to the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS), 80% of dogs show signs of oral disease by age 3. That's 4 out of every 5 dogs!
What is Gingivitis?
Because dogs don’t regularly brush their teeth after every meal, they are susceptible to gingivitis, which is a bacterial infection that causes inflammation around the base of the teeth and gums. Symptoms include bad breath, bleeding swollen gums and even lose teeth. Treatment includes professional dental cleaning and chemical oral hygiene cleaning.
Canine gingivitis needs to be treated, or else it can result in periodontitis. This is why regular check-ups are needed.
How can CBD treat Gingivitis?
CBD has potent anti-bacterial properties to fight germs. Cannabidiol (or CBD) gets down deep into the gums and kills the bacteria and prevents infection. It also reduces inflammation and helps to heal the gums. CBD can also boost your dog's immune system so their bodies can fight off other illnesses.
What’s the best way for my dogs to take CBD for gum care?
CBD oils for dogs can be given by tincture drops directly in the mouth. The dogs actually like the taste and are happy to get the treats. You can also use this along with regular teeth brushing by adding CBD oil for animals to the canine toothpaste.
We give Wynter and Riley daily CBD treats. This is not only great for their teeth, but also for their general health. I even add a few drops of CBD oil to their water.
What can I do to prevent plaque build-up?
We love using an all natural gel on our dogs. We want to make sure we are doing everything we can to prevent tartar and plaque build-up. Made with simple ingredients like Grapefruit Seed Extract, Grape Seed Extract, Peppermint Oil, Rosemary Oil, Thyme Oil and Neem Seed Oil, reduce or soften plaque and tartar,
We like that Gel Me works systemically through your pet's saliva, fighting bacteria and reducing inflammation.
Gel me is easy to use, smells wonderful, and has a taste that my dogs love. TruDog has been one of our favorite companies to work with. The owner, Lori Taylor loves dogs and it shows in the company she has built. So I highly recommend adding plaque prevention into your dog's dental routine.
You should always be checking your dog’s mouth for signs of gum disease and knowing what is and isn’t normal. This is no replacement for the routine veterinary check. But some dogs, like Wynter, do not react well to dental cleaning and this is a great way to prevent that expensive and dangerous procedure. Wynter is now almost 10 years old and after giving her regular CBD treatments and dental Gel treatments, her teeth look fantastic and her gums are very healthy.
