9 Uplifting Things You Can Do Now To Live A Happier LifeThe hunt for a happier life is one that has been passed on from generation to generation. We all want to feel happier in our lives, we read about it, sing about it, and hunt for ways to be happier.

The truth is, happiness happens when you aren't focused on finding it. And sometimes it's small, sometimes it's unexpected, and most of the time it's unappreciated.

So what does it take to have a happier life?

9 Ways To Bring More Happy Into Your Day

  1.  Make more time for self-love and attention. You need to look after YOU.  Perhaps you need to go to bed earlier, stop eating junk, or even exercise more. Whatever it is, when you start making more time to take care of yourself, you will feel better and yes… even happier.
  2.  Make time to learn more. When you activate the learning parts of your brain, you are enriching yourself and bringing more joy into your mind. Lifelong learners are happier, healthier, and live longer.  So what will you learn about today?
  3.  Gratitude brings happiness. When you take time each day to focus on the things you are thankful for, it becomes easier to see the good in life and the things that bring you joy. Happiness is sparked by this positive emotion.
  4.  Appreciate the little things. Mindfulness teaches us that we should be present and aware. So from the soft grass under our feet to the blue skies above. When we learn how to focus on the Now, instead of the frustrating things that happened in the Then, we open ourselves up to see the little things that we have.

  5.  Do something nice for someone else, just because.  When you do good deeds or volunteer to help, you are not only helping others, but that also feel like we have a happier life.  Even something as simple as holding the door and waiting as others pass is a simple act that transfers delight from one person to another.
  6.  Do more with your free time. I LOVE staying home on the weekend and napping on the couch.  But the best times of my life have been spent doing things, not napping. Invest your time and experience more – try a new trail for hiking, go to a concert, explore someplace new.
  7.  Don't live your life trying to compete with Instagram. I have to admit, as much as I say that I don't, I find myself looking at Instagram and wishing I was thinner, healthier, younger, and traveled more. But the reality is, Instagram is a filter.  That's not real everyday life! Real life is messy, it's annoying, and it is most certainly not eating gloriously perfect food 8x's a day and wandering beaches in tiny bikinis with no job. So stop trying to make an InstaPerfect life and look at how great your life is.
  8.  Care for your relationships. There are people in your life that mean something.  When you are struggling to find a happier life, these people are the ones who want to bring you there.  So when you are looking for ways to be happier, take some time to reach out to those people and tell them what they mean to you. Care for that relationship and feed it with tenderness.
  9.  Forgive yourself. I saved this one for last because it's the hardest one for many of us to do. We hold these self-grudges, sometimes for a lifetime. We remember every word that led to destruction, every hurtful action we did that we can't take back, every self-deprecating thing we did that we feel like we need to keep paying for. But learning how to forgive yourself, we often forget that we need to do that.

More about forgiveness.

I still remember things that I did in the past, things that bring tears to my eyes even now, and it's so hard to forgive myself.  The time I accidentally pushed my toddler and he fell and hit his eye and had a black eye, I can still feel my body try to pull back in that last instant before we made contact. That was 26 years ago!

My self-judgment says “You should have been more careful. You shouldn't have been in a rush and taken the time to sit down with him and read more. Maybe he wouldn't have been such a pain in the ass as a teenager if you hadn't been so weird as a Mom.”

When the reality is, you can't go back in time and change things.  You can simply apologize and move forward. Forgiving yourself means you are free to live a happier life, and you can then do your best to make amends if possible for past mistakes.

Letting go says “You were exhausted, stressed beyond belief, and accidents happen. You did the best you could and your children all love you. That moment hurt you more then it did him, so you became more cautious, more deliberate, and made time to show him and the others that you were doing all you could to give them a good life. That is what matters.”

I truly hope you found something in our 9 suggestions that bring you more happiness in your life. If you did, I would LOVE to hear what it was. And if you liked it, we would be so happy if you would share it with your friends.

Have a great day and thanks for reading!
