Combating The Most Frustrating Symptom Of Lyme For Writers – Forgetting our Grammar

Brain damage or old age, I’m not sure which one. But I’ve noticed that my spelling has gone drastically downhill. I recently discovered Grammarly, a grammar and spelling editor, and I have to say that I have rediscovered my love of writing.

Lyme does affect your cognitive functions.

One of the more frustrating issues that have plagued me with Lyme Disease is the mental deterioration. I was warned by my doctors and other people with Lyme Disease that this was an issue. I do my best to combat it, but it’s there. Daily I see little things that have changed. My spelling, which was once quite impressive, is now frustratingly bad. I look at words that I once was a champion at spelling and now wonder if it is right or I just can’t see the error.

A fellow blogger, Darren Rowse from ProBlogger, suggested giving Grammarly a try. Insisting that once I gave it a try that I’d feel more confident in my writing and grammar again. Hesitantly I gave it a look and just wasn’t sure it was for me. Even more, I wasn’t sure I wanted to pay for something that is already installed with my writing programs already.

But it was free and I had nothing to lose by giving it a try.

I’m so thankful for that advice, and I am now saying that this is the one tool that I don’t want to live without. I never knew how much I needed a proofreader until I found Grammarly.

Grammarly showed me how to step up my writing.

I’m a decent writer. I love the art of masterfully placing the right words and creating a collage of creativity through my storytelling.

Lyme Disease threatened to take that away. There were moments I wanted to walk away from writing, away from blogging about the most basic of things, because I was so frustrated with seeing something I’d posted with a huge grammar or spelling error that had slipped through SpellCheck without a blink of a cursor. Each mistake made me feel less and less confident that I was capable of proceeding with what I love.

Instant Grammar Checker - Correct all grammar errors and enhance your writing.

I began taking B12 injections, upping my herbal doses of cognition enhancers. It helped, but it wasn’t enough to ease my fear and calm my upset.

After a few weeks of using Grammarly, I’ve realized how much better I’ve felt about my time spent writing. Not just for writing longer pieces, Grammarly is also working with my professional emails through Outlook. I love it.

I’m not alone!

Here’s my little secret: Sometimes I even copy other blogs and articles into Word so I can send them through Grammarly and I feel so much better because I’m not the only one who has been struggling with errors. Everyone does it!

I loved Grammarly so much after using them that I’ve suggested it to my husband and friends as well as to my blogging pals. Give it a try. Use it for a month. If you don’t feel like it has improved your writing, then stop. But I urge you if you want to feel more confident in your ability as a writer, try Grammarly.

I’ve read many reviews. In fact, I usually look for reviews for products before purchasing them. The ones that mean something to me are the ones that add value to something that applies to me. No, Grammarly won’t fix your brain. It won’t repair the deterioration or make you funnier in group settings. But for me, I feel like it is one more thing that I can use to help me feel like there isn’t one more thing being taken away from me by a disease that just won’t stop.

I’ve reached out to Grammarly, and because I honestly love them so much, I’ve offered to affiliate with them so I can bring their product to you directly. I hope you’ll give them a try and see if it makes a difference for you too.

Let me know what you think.

  1. I just started using Grammarly too…but my last blog post had all sorts of weird marks after I had to export it to Word, then copy and paste it to WordPress….I’m not sure what happened with the formatting. I must study this problem more and figure it out. I do like the program thus far, except for the copying and pasting thing….I could do without that pain in the ass! But it’s a great grammar and spelling checker for sure! Thanks! ~MB

    • Oh that’s weird. I do it with most of my posts, and I’ve never had that issues. I wonder if there is something weird turned on for you.
