Unbelievably there are still people out there spouting off about how the terms of marriage shouldn’t be widened to accept same sex couples. Even reason isn’t sinking in to them. They hold on to some obscure line in the Old Testament which at the time was meant to promote growth in the community through the reproduction of children. However girls were often married off by the time of their first menstruation, so anywhere from 9-13 girls were given by their fathers to a husband who purchased them. The girls did not have a right to refuse, and were expected to give birth without drugs in tents! Girls DIED!
Instead of talking about how that one quote in the bible has been twisted and manipulated to give random people the soap box to stand on against other human beings, let’s talk about things ARE actually said by God.
It is commanded that you keep the Sabbath. This isn’t one of those soft suggestions but a hard rule. Which means from sun down on Friday night til sun down on Saturday evening neither you, your spouse, your children, your servants, or your cattle may work. Not just not work, but you should be resting and praying. Not going out for dinner, a movie, or having a party. No exceptions!
Don’t wear clothes made of more than one fabric. Yeah… so no nylon with cotton, no denim with polyester, and so on. You get to choose one fabric and stick with it. Leviticus 19:19
If a man cheats on his wife, or vice versa, both the man and the woman must die. Well, this might curb some cheating or at least drastically reduce the population. Leviticus 20:10
Don’t cut your hair nor shave. Sorry ladies, it’s time to let those pits get wild and nasty if you are going to claim to follow all of God’s laws. Leviticus 19:27 There’s also a rule about round haircuts and trimming your beards.
Now some of you out there are Christian and follow Jesus pretty close. Here’s something that he said about love. “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. And he asked that everyone ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ He didn’t say only love the straight ones, the healthy ones, the Christian ones, he said love your neighbor.
“You are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel” –Numbers 15:38. I do hope that after you are done quoting the bibles about what you think it says that you are holding tight to your tassels and know why they are important.
God commanded everyone to kill Passover lambs each year in honor of him and of the things he has done for his followers. Did you make sure this got done on your To Do list this spring? (Exodus 12:1-8, 24-27).
So beyond the basic commandments, we also have these basic rules.
No tattoos! Not even that one you keep hidden.
No eating animals that have split hooves or are unclean. Sorry, no shrimp, crabs, lobster, or BACON.
Eating fruit from a tree within four years of planting it. I hope you know where your fruits are coming from. Also, the fields where fruits and vegetables are planted can only be harvested for 6 years, on the 7th it must be given to the poor and what they do not eat must be fed to the animals.
No checking your horoscope or talking to wizards or psychics. Nope.. none of them. Sorry Harry!
“Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor; I am the LORD.” Meaning; no gossiping or talking smack about anyone, not even people you don’t agree with. This applies to online comments too folks!
No getting remarried unless your spouse was cheating. Because going back to Leviticus 20:10 if a spouse cheats they must be killed. But if you just didn’t get along and have followed ALL of the rules regarding divorce according to the biblical laws, don’t plan on getting married again because apparently marriage is between a virgin man and a virgin woman. Ladies if you are divorced you are likely supposed to be married off to his brother or next available man in the family.
There are tons of other crazy laws to follow. Breaking many of them resulting in death! So you want to pick out one obscure reference and cling on to it as an excuse for your homophobic or transphobic babble? No. Just NO.
You don’t get to pick and choose which version of God’s word you want to choose as it fits your fancy and apply it to other people. Love your neighbor, that’s the one that is the most important one of all. Just stop talking smack, spreading hate, and give in to love.
You don’t have to be gay if you really don’t want to be. You can be openly straight, Bi, questioning, ect. But for now, put down your anger and let it go.
